Privacy policy
Effective 2 November 2026. This policy covers the Piece by Piece app for Android (package com.marklamplugh.piecebypiece), published by MWL Applications.
The short version: Piece by Piece does not collect, sell or share any personal data. It has no accounts, no ads, no analytics and no tracking. The app does not even have permission to use the internet. Your photos and puzzles stay on your phone unless you choose to export or share them.
Information we collect
None. The app does not send any information about you, your device, your photos or your play to us or to anyone else. There is no account, no sign-in, no advertising ID, no analytics and no crash reporting service in the app.
Your photos
When you make a puzzle from your own photo, you choose it with Android's photo picker (or take one with your camera app). The app only receives the single photo you pick. It never gets access to your whole photo library.
The app keeps its own private copy of each photo you import, stored inside the app on your device where other apps cannot read it. That copy is re-saved without location (GPS) or other hidden details. Your original photo is never changed, moved or deleted.
What is stored on your device
- Private copies and thumbnails of photos you import
- Your puzzles, their progress and statistics (such as play time and hints used)
- Favourites, achievements and settings
This information never leaves your device unless you export it (see below).
Backups and moving to a new phone
Piece by Piece is excluded from Android's automatic cloud backup and device-to-device transfer, so your photos are not copied to Google's servers by the app. If you want a copy, you can use Settings → Export a backup. That creates a file containing your imported photos and puzzles, saved to a place you choose. You decide where it goes and who receives it.
Sharing
If you tap Share after finishing a puzzle, the app creates an image of your finished picture and opens Android's share sheet. Nothing is shared unless you choose an app to share with. The shared image contains no location data.
Children
The app does not collect personal information from anyone, including children.
Deleting your data
You can delete a puzzle or an imported photo inside the app, or use Settings → Erase all app data. Uninstalling the app also removes everything it has stored. Because we hold no data about you, there is nothing for us to delete on our side.
Included pictures
The pictures that come with the app are from Wikimedia Commons under CC0 and CC BY licences. Credits are in the app under Settings → Picture credits.
Changes
If a future version of the app changes how data is handled, this page will be updated before that version is released, with a new effective date.
